Gola was the oldest half-sister of Imperial Major Horl. She worked as a bounty hunter from before he was born, and he looked up to her as a hero. When he first became imperial major, he made her mind-river of Lal.

After the downfall of Empress Zupa, the Empire needed a new communications system, and Horl killed Gola in a sacrificial ritual that imprisoned her life-pattern in the soul-gem he was forging. The Decadent Epoch's emblem for the office of the mind-river of Lal honors her sacrifice.

Wiz was a mysterious woman who at various times made her way as a poet, a warrior, a detective, a Patternistics instructor. The moonflower was her personal emblem.

She fell in love with Emperor Quintillion, and the dictates of her forbidden love eventually drove her to leave the service.

When he was dismissed as major by his son, Emperor Torm, Numo fled to Saqufe and opened a resaurant chain. His logo features a bioid lobster like those that are part of the traditional Saqufean tea ceremony.

Anaxa, Stolfa, and Staelfue were the three daughters of Efeen and Thermeon. When Efeen died, Thermeon insisted that Anaxa take her place as Empress of the Code planets and rule from their capital, Meru-Iola. The Coders submitted outwardly, but their hearts remained true to a secret Empress.

Kima was the daughter Maxuas, son of Thermeon and Efeen. She represented her people's hope that they could transcend their troubles and dominate the Empire that had defeated their warriors and absorbed their planets. Rahalo was the brother of Quintillion. He remained true to the ways of their father's people, the Nanders, while his younger brother tried to make himself the galaxy with his mindpowers. He was sometimes jokingly referred to as "the Nander Emperor." His insignia represents the Grandmother Dance that Nanders participated in to relive and share their ancient memories.

Reselona was the granddaughter of Empress Katora, and Katora's choice to take the throne after her father's failure. Pligian was the grandson of Poet Laureate Lelfet and a champion of the Blue Coders. He didn't inherit his grandmother's red eyes, a sign of Maxuas's line, but he could project the illusion of red to show that his heart, mind, and spirit remained true to his ancestors' ideals.

Haree

A granddaughter of Katora and Thermeon, Haree was at one time Katora's choice to guide the Empire into the Age of Illumination. Haree was soon eclipsed in her grandmother's eyes by her brother Nathimeon, and when she was kidnapped during the chaos of a glowworm plague, Katora assumed that she was dead and moved on. Haree turned up centuries later on an uninhabited moon.

Her imperial insignia shows one who has given her all for the Empire, though her efforts were unappreciated by her grandmother.

The son of Reselona, Ganshin carried on his mother's hope that many ordinary people working together would lift the Empire from the chaotic rule of the mindseas.

Sunfox was a detective, who used his intelligence and insight to solve cases for the Starfire Detective Agency, which had been founded by his grandfather Thermeon.
