Characters appearing in Bolt
The story begins in Imperial Year 105,664 with the death of Empress Haree. For the first time in human memory, the successor to the throne will be chosen by a series of Deep-level horse races. Every citizen who has drawn one of the Deep-level Torsa horses from the Plains of Possibility will have a chance to win a position in the Emperor Race. But first they will face increasingly dangerous challenges in the racetrack's multiverse intersections. "We have become a meritocracy of sorts," contender Nathimeon explains. "The races are a test of a rider's ability to bond and cooperate with Deep-level beings and navigate Deep-level landscapes—both very necessary skills in a galactic empire."
