Contenders and Assistants

Mana and Ting

Having no mindpowers, Mana is an inconsequential member of the imperial family. All citizens are guaranteed an equal chance in the preliminary races leading up to the Emperor Race, but she will not go far. After she is eliminated, she will support her friends. She rides a classic champagne mare with snowflakes named Transporting. Because there is another horse in the stable with the same name, Mana's mare is called "Ting."

Katora and Summer

Katora is Mana's grandmother, and the most powerful female mindsea in the galaxy. She and her husband, Thermeon, the most powerful male mindsea, have been in charge of who occupies the imperial throne for centuries. One of their granddaughters, Haree, has been empress, but Katora feels the time is ripe for a more talented son to take over and guide humanity into the Age of Illumination.

Dred and Poon

Dred is the late Empress's sister. She feels she has received a mandate from Haree to be her successor.

Blue and Spinning

Blue is the sister of Haree and of Dred. She is supporting Dred's bid for the throne.

Raolin and Mixing

Raolin is Katora's father. As Head of the Circle of Experts, he represents the Empire's conservative forces and tries to keep his daughter in check. But as head of the Bureau Branch of the government, he cannot have any say in the reorganization of the Palace Branch under a new emperor.

Hub and Baquer

Hub is a Member of the Circle, a friend of Raolin as well as his half-brother. He too will have nothing to do with the scramble for the throne, but only races because it is a citizen's duty.

Puotcha and Eerie

Puotcha was Empress Haree's imperial major. She feels that she did an excellent job upholding the laws of of the Empire, despite her grandmother Katora's lack of appreciation.

Dino and Superhuman Prog

Dino is Mana's grandfather on her father's side and her uncle on her mother's side.

Nathimeon and TerraformingThunder

Nathimeon is the son of Katora and Thermeon, her mother's shining star and her hope for the future.

Karali and Slaske

Karali is Nathimeon's sister. Like him, she has mindpowers.

Thermeon and Eternal Trat

Eternal Trat was the first Torsa horse to be bond with humans. He has been around since the Empire's foundation. Only the current emperor is supposed to ride him, but Thermeon pays no mind to rules.

Kusomba and Warlike Guru

Kusomba is a cousin of Mana's who helps out at the stables.

Smulet and Clown

Smulet is a young woman who helps out at the stables. She is a follower of the ancient Code religion.

Morning Glory and Stretching Meith

Morning Glory is the sister of Thermeon. She has been missing for thousands of years. She is still brooding about her failure to forge a soul-gem that would guarantee an era of happiness and fulfillment for the Empire.

Nathimeon and Transcendent Point

The Nathimeon of another timeline is so different that even his mother doesn't recognize him. He also rides a different horse.

Sunfox and Sunlight of Prophets

Sunfox is a detective, but like everyone else, he participates in the Challenge on Horseback.

Pebie and Starbust

Pebie wants to be the Chosen One of the Emperor Race, but she gains notoriety as "The Worm."

Vedina and Romancer

Vedina is Heaadmistress of the Mindsea Academy of Lal. Mana wonders why she isn't more worried about the Empire's future.

Reselona and Olme

Reselona is Mana's half-sister. Seeing her brings back Mana's unhappy childhood memories.

Stochina and Shaper

A descendant of Thermeon and his peasant wife, Galena, Stochina is known as the Peasant Champion.

Fuerida and Shadow

Fuerida is Morning Glory's daughter. She seems more interested in playing with her sword and collecting soul-gem splinters than in healing the Empire.

Aspo and Linto

Fuerida's travel companion, Aspo, is a son of the blue emperor, Quintillion. Quintillion was the last known possessor of the black soul-gem splinter.

Orgmorgan and Smoke

Orgmorgan is Morning Glory's mate and Fuerida's father. He is very serious about drinking.

Baran and Comet

Baran is the winner of the second preliminary race. He is Reselona's grandson, yet she doesn't seem to recognize him.

Eria and Serious Quiav

Eria is an intergalactic trader. She and her horse haven't been seen in the Lal stable for millennia.

Dilora and Gatim's Fashion

Dilora is the daughter of Dino and Katora.

Lorlue and Ahaha

Lorlue is the Sector Three champion.

Auskirk and Olme

Auskirk is Reselona's mother and Mana's stepmother. She is one reason Mana had an unhappy childhood.

Pligian is the Sector One champion. He represents the Blue Coders.

Shell and Playful Diplomat

Shell is the Sector Five champion. She calls herself the multiverse champion. Aspo is her brother.

Puflet is the Sector Seven champion. She is Mana's mother.

Keol is the Sector Four champion. He is an old friend of Mana's mother.
